At CapitalOS, our focus has been to empower software companies to launch high-quality financial services in weeks, and even days, by taking on the undifferentiated heavy lifting, including compliance, risk, and underwriting.

B2B platforms are experts in their domains, and each domain has different business needs: the ideal financial workflows for a property manager are not the same as for a field service company or a film production. Until now, launching a financial product meant hiring experts, standing up a dedicated engineering team, and committing to maintain the necessary infrastructure for years. With CapitalOS, platforms can focus on what they do best, hand off the rest, and become the financial operating system for their customers.

Over the last 18 months, our team has focused on making sure that our infrastructure does exactly that, and volume through CapitalOS has grown more than 20x. Today we're announcing the latest milestone in the journey: we've raised $21.9M in Series A funding led by LGVP, joined by WEX Venture Capital, Group11, Great North Ventures, and Night Capital, with continued support from our existing investors, to materially scale what we've built.

The closest thing your customers could have to a finance team

The businesses on any B2B platform could run far better financial operations than they actually do: cash flow, expenses, liquidity, collections, access to capital. Getting these right materially improves outcomes, but it takes expertise and capacity most small businesses don't have.

That is about to change. For the first time, software can do the work of a finance team, and the platform a business already runs on is where that work will happen.

Doing the work of a finance team takes three things: context, judgment, and execution. Context is understanding how the business actually runs. Judgment is reasoning over that context to reach the right financial decision. Execution is acting in the financial system.

Platforms already have the context. They run the workflows where financial decisions emerge, understand how the business operates, and own the customer relationship where better decisions can be put into action. The judgment and the execution are the parts they have had to build from scratch, or go without.

That is what CapitalOS provides. As the money orchestration layer underneath the platform, it brings the judgment and the execution. With the context the platform already has, every business on it can run its finances as the best-run companies do.

Software can finally do the work, not just record it

Business software is shifting from a system of record that tracks what happens to a system of action that carries it out. Financial operations are a natural place for that to play out: businesses have always wanted to stop leaving money on the table and delegate the overhead, but that stayed out of reach. LLMs changed that. Three years ago this was impossible, a year ago it worked reliably only in narrow cases, and we are now on a trajectory where most of a business's financial decisions can be made automatically, and more consistently than a person could.

The business gets the financial sophistication that used to require a finance team, inside software it already uses.

For the platform, this changes its role in the customer's business. Software that records the work is one tool among many. Software that also moves the money — paying suppliers, issuing cards, managing cash — becomes part of how the business runs every day. That relationship is deeper and much harder to replace, which shows up as stronger retention, and it opens new revenue streams.

Focus on your differentiated value. Delegate the rest

CapitalOS provides platforms with high-level building blocks that fit naturally into the business context: an abstraction layer that removes the need to learn the financial system while preserving the flexibility to build the right solutions for their users.

Most of a business's financial lifecycle runs through four primitives: bills, cards, wallets, and receivables. Bills cover what a business owes its suppliers and vendors; CapitalOS reads the terms, the available payment methods, and the timing, then decides how best to pay each one, autonomously when possible and with the platform in the loop when valuable. Cards let a platform issue cards to its businesses and their teams, with spend controls built in, and every swipe captures context in the moment. When a property manager makes a purchase, a quick reply to a notification posts the charge to the right property and settles it from that property's trust account. No month-end coding, and nobody fronts cash and waits to be reimbursed.

Wallets store and grow a business's cash, sweeping idle balances into treasury for yield and sub-ledgering reserves for payroll, taxes, and growth. Receivables cover the money coming in: creating invoices, following up on what's overdue, and reconciling once it's paid.

Beneath those building blocks, CapitalOS provides the judgment and the execution with a team of agents supervised by experts: the reasoning on risk, compliance, and underwriting, and the movement of money through the financial system. With that handled, a platform ships financial products as easily as any other feature and keeps what is its own: the workflow, the customer, the data model, and the brand.

What each of these looks like inside a platform is on our platform page.

Looking ahead

The financial sophistication once reserved for large companies is becoming available to every business through the platforms they already depend on. Platforms will compete by delivering financial operations tailored to the industries they know best, on a foundation that lets them focus on what makes them different. Small businesses will run more efficiently, more resiliently, and more profitably than ever before.

CapitalOS intends to be the money orchestration layer underneath that shift. If you run a platform and want to save your customers time and money and deepen your strategic value, we would love to talk. And if you would rather help build the layer itself, we are hiring for a small number of roles with real ownership. The open positions are here.
